PM Modi will inaugurate Asia's biggest Bio-CNG plant today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will use video conferencing to inaugurate the “Gobar-Dhan (Bio-CNG) Plant” in Indore at 1 p.m. today. For maximum resource recovery, the Indore Bio-CNG facility was built under the overarching ideas of “waste to wealth” and “circular economy.” According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the plant is in accordance with PM Modi’s objective of producing “garbage-free cities” under the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0.

With a daily capacity of 550 tonnes of segregated wet organic waste, the Gobar-Dhan plant is planned to produce 17,000 kg of CNG and 100 tonnes of organic compost.

The factory will not generate rejects by maximising resource recovery, according to zero-landfill models.

According to the PMO, it is also projected to provide many environmental benefits such as reduced greenhouse gas emissions, renewable energy, and organic compost as a fertiliser.

Indore Clean Energy Pvt Ltd, a Special Purpose Vehicle put up by Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) and Indo Enviro Integrated Solutions Ltd, is in charge of the project (IEISL).

IMC will buy at least half of the CNG produced by the Gobar-Dhan facility. The municipal corporation will run 400 city buses on compressed natural gas in a first-of-its-kind effort.

CNG will be sold on the open market in the remaining quantities. According to an official announcement, “the organic compost will assist replace chemical fertilisers for agricultural and horticultural uses.”
